Key Findings:

- Daters will message 22 different people, but only a third will get a response
- Those that hook up online on Jan 3rd won’t end up meeting in person until Monday 16th January
- Dating activity set to increase by 37% on 3rd January, with 9pm the peak time
Tuesday 3rd January 2017 is set to be the UK’s busiest ever day for online dating, according to industry leader Match. Millions of Britons are expected to log on to dating apps and websites as they return to work after their festive break, with traffic peaking around 9pm.
Dating app users will scroll through an average of 43 profiles on their first day back in the office, with men particularly active; searching through 47 potential dates, compared to 38 for women. With the festive period over and Brits keen to make a fresh start, the average dating app user will message 22 people on the 3rd January, but only a third (36 per cent) of these will ever get a response.
Research also reveals that those who do hook up via their mobiles on the 3rd January won’t end up meeting until almost two weeks later, waiting until Monday 16th January to go on their first date. Match is predicting overall dating activity to be 37 per cent higher than average on its busiest day of the year.
Across the board men are expected to be more active, sending 20 per cent more messages and also being 19 per cent more likely to respond to messages sent by potential love interests.
Jenny Mitchell, Match spokesperson, commented: “With the Christmas festivities over, January is the time that many Britons embrace a fresh start and get back into the dating game. With no mistletoe or Christmas parties to break the ice, dating apps are a fun and easy way to find out if there is someone out there for you. And with more people likely to be online on January 3rd than at any other time this year, your chances of success will be even higher.”
