match.com today announced a series of dating events taking place across the UK in the week leading up to Valentine’s Day. The events come as part of the dating expert’s initiative for singles to ‘make their own luck’ on Friday 13th: a day it is billing as the single’s alternative to Valentine’s Day.
Every day of the week beginning Monday 9th February, events will be held in different cities across the country. The events, ranging from salsa to bowling, are designed to bring single people together at a time of year that is traditionally geared towards couples and give match.com members more ways to meet. This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday, but rather than focusing on the 14th, match.com is encouraging singles to instead focus on the notoriously unlucky Friday 13th, with the intention of making it lucky for some.
Kate Taylor, dating and relationship expert at match.com, comments: “There is no reason to feel despondent if you’re single this Valentine’s Day. At match.com, we’ve always believed you have the power to change your love life, so we’ve expanded our glittering portfolio of Social Events to give you even more chances to meet your match before February 14th. Break tradition this year and make Friday 13th a lucky night by trying out our stylish Black Label event at Sway Bar in London.
“Our social events mix our unique match-making formula with real-life chemistry. We invite a hand-picked crowd of singles to relax and mingle over the fun of a shared experience. Whether you’re bowling, trying out salsa dancing, shaking up cocktails or just shaking your thang at our Black Label evenings, there’ll be an event to suit you.”

Here are Kate Taylor’s Top Five tips to make the most of your match.com Social Event:
- Fly Solo. Arriving in a small group, or alone, makes you infinitely more approachable to other singles. Don’t feel shy – the relaxed atmosphere of our Social evenings bring out the best in even the most seasoned wall-hugger.
- Don’t worry about what to say. The activity you’re trying out (whether that’s trying out a new cuisine, or trying to beat your best score in bowling) creates conversations naturally.
- Look your best. If you’re coming straight from work, ensure you’ve picked out an outfit that’ll show you at your best after-hours too. Or bring along a more casual accessory to remind you to switch from “office” to “flirt”.
- Have fun. Don’t worry about being the best bowler, or getting every salsa step right. These Socials are simply ways to meet other singles. Nobody will be watching your technique. Just show off your cutest smile.
- Kick ass, take names. Be sure to get the match.com username of any singles you like, so you can keep in contact after the Event. Or swap numbers.”
